Great article, Jessica.

Passion is definitely overrated. Not that it’s useless and that should be banned. On the contrary, it gives us important tips, and we need to give those energies a room in our life. But I’ve esperienced on my skin that this may be misleading.

You pointed at an important question: What will I think of my life when it will end? And I soon discover that I wouldn’t regret my passions. My life will be well spent if I’ll have loved, and pursued my purpose.

Purpose is the key word, for me. What’s the thing you absolutely want to accomplish in life? That’s what will drive you until the end of your days and will allow you to make sacrifices. You won’t do it because it’s pleasant (tough it may be) or confortable, but because it has a meaning. And if you don’t have a purspose… fine! Just don’t confuse passion with purpose.

Yet, often your purpose is not what will pay your bills. Bringing value to others, value that others are willing to pay for, may be a different business. Maybe not for all of your life, but for a good while. This compromise has different solutions for each but, unless you’re born superhero (you should have evidence of it, like telekinesis, or three sold startups in your 20s), it’s something that will be part of your life.
